BERNARD HOPKINS TO APPEAR ON ESPN's FRIDAY NIGHT FIGHTS SEASON OPENER TONIGHT

The Future Hall of Famer Will Discuss Coming Year and Announcement of WBC Mandated Rematch With Jean Pascal

Philadelphia, PA (January 7)...Its never "out with the old and in with the new" when referring to future Hall of Famer Bernard "The Executioner" Hopkins, as the two-division, two-decade fighting pugilist ended the year with an old fashion ass-whooping of young champion Jean Pascal and tonight will appear via satellite in the season opener of ESPN Friday Night Fights (10 p.m. ET on ESPN2, ESPN Deportes in Spanish and ESPN3.com). The taped-to-air interview, conducted by ESPN anchor Brian Kenny, takes place just a week shy of The Executioner's 46th birthday which he will celebrate January 15.

In addition to talking about his 2010 year-end performance that led to a controversial draw with Pascal, he will also express his feelings on Thursday's announcement that the WBC is mandating a rematch between the two.

"I think the WBC just gave me an early birthday present," said Hopkins. "They've done the right thing and are not going to let Pascal run from me again like he did in the ring during our fight.  I will show him and the rest of the world that those belts should have been mine the first time around."
