Hundreds of boxing fans made their way to the Köln-Arcaden in Cologne, Germany, today to watch the public workout in advance of Saturday’s world title clash at the Lanxess Arena between WBA Middleweight champion Felix Sturm and challenger Matthew Macklin from Ireland. Both fighters appeared to be in great shape, as they did their work routine and seemed thoroughly confident. Sturm and Macklin promised a victory to the crowd in attendance.Macklin: “It’s a great challenge for me to beat Felix Sturm in his hometown. I’ll win this fight and bring the WBA belt back to Ireland.”
“There won’t be a new world champion on Saturday night,” Sturm promised the fans after his workout. “Cologne is Cologne and fighting inside the Lanxess Arena is always special to me. I’m ready for a great battle on Saturday.”
Fritz Sdunek, Sturm's trainer, added: “The fans won’t be disappointed. Felix is really strong.”
